About Jimi Savage; Newcastle Guitar Teacher

Background & Musical Upbringing of Guitar Teacher, Jimi Savage

I was born in County Durham, North East of England and my musical life started when I used to be a chorister at the age of 7 and also used to play drums at that age too.

I took music as an option at school and loved it – so much so that I decided to study music at the age of 16 at college upon leaving comprehensive school. I decided that I wanted to become a professional musician and play the guitar & bass guitar as my chosen instruments. I then got into sports and music took a back seat for a few years, but it all came back at the age of 13, getting into rock & metal as a kid. I took a serious interest in guitar and music and took inspiration from players such as Edward Van Halen, Yngwie Malmsteen, Joe Satriani & Steve Vai, Michael Lee Firkins, Jeff Beck, Scott Henderson and Paul Gilbert (Pictured).

First Introductions to Guitar Teaching

I began offering guitar lessons to my friends at home at the age of 19; word soon got round and I was having all sorts of folk get in touch with me for guitar tuition! I then started my own guitar lessons & recording studio business at the age of 23; being a practicing session player/performer by the age of 21. After teaching guitar for a number of years in guitar shop locations, I began to offer guitar lessons at a fixed location in Newcastle Arts Centre. Savage guitar studio has continued to run from 1993 to the present day, providing more than 20 years of professional guitar lessons and music tuition.

The new studio offers all of the same professional guitar lessons and music tuition services as previously, within a clean, modern and welcoming venue, and is easily accessible being only 2 minutes off the Coast Road with ample free parking available. The location of Savage Guitar Studio is also convenient to other areas of the North East including South Tyneside, Gateshead, Sunderland and County Durham. My guitar tuition and tutoring services are also available via Skype for those unable to get to the guitar studio or to those living outside of the North East of England.
